Ski the World Wall Calendar

Skis have been used for thousands of years for travel, hunting, and warfare. Competitive cross-country skiing began as early as 1843 in Norway, but it wasn’t until about 1860 and the invention of birch-root bindings to hold both the heel and toe to the ski that modern alpine skiing became possible. With the spread of tows and lifts in the 1930s, skiing was no longer a sport for only the intrepid and caught on as a holiday pastime for the elite. From the Swiss Alps to Sun Valley, Idaho, tourism agencies, railroads, and resorts advertised their snow and slopes via stylized posters designed to appeal to active tourists. The art showcased dramatic vistas and athletic prowess alongside hand-drawn typography. In-demand poster artists as well as lesser-known designers contributed to the ski poster genre. All of Pomegranate’s calendars are printed with soy-based inks on FSC® certified paper, which means the paper has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council™ and manufactured by an FSC certified printer. FSC certification promotes responsible forest management by ensuring that forestry practices are environmentally responsible, socially equitable, and economically viable.FSC license code FSC N001864.
